Barry DickeyOctober 7, 1950 ~ December 6, 2017 (age 67)
Greer, SC: On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, the Lord in his infinite wisdom dispatched an Angel to Greer Memorial Hospital to escort Barry Dickey, 67 of 212 Sunnyside Drive, from his earthly home to a home not built by hands.
Son of the late Woodrow Dickey Jr. and the late Martha Elizabeth Cleveland Dickey, he was born in Spartanburg County SC.
A member of New Trinity Baptist Church, he attended the public schools of Spartanburg County, SC and was a 1968 graduate of Florence Chapel High School. He furthered his education at Allen University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Barry moved to New York at an early age. He served as an Addiction Counselor for the West Midtown Medical Group in New York, and The Phoenix House Queens- Parkside. He was employed by The New York Department of Education as an accountant where he retired after 20 years of service. In 2009 he became a founding member of New Light Baptist Church in Harlem, NY under the leadership of Pastor Bobby Lewis. He was ordained a Deacon and faithfully served until he returned back home where he reunited with his home Church, New Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley Dickey
Surviving are: a daughter, Tanika (Clarence) Young of Belle Glade, FL; 2 grandchildren, Clarnisha Young of Orlando, FL, and Camiya Young of Belle Glade, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 10, 2017 in New Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Wendell L. Thompson, Sr. Officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
His remains will lie in State at the Church after 1:00 pm Sunday.
The family will receive friends at the home of his cousin, Mark Cleveland, 230 Wingo Road, Wellford, SC 29385
