Cordova, TN: Mr. Harold H. Scipio 91, of 1535 Appling Care Lane, formerly of 106 Morgan St., Greer, SC, died Thursday June 11, 2020 at his residence.
Born in Darlington, SC on April 14, 1929, he was a son of the late Harrison and Elmer Baker Scipio. Realizing this day would surely come, he accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and became a member of Providence UM church in Darlington. SC. Later in life, he transferred his membership to Bethel United Methodist Church in Greer, where he served as steward for many years, and was a former Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Scipio was educated in the public schools of Darlington, SC. He furthered his education by attending Claflin College in Orangeburg, SC where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He completed his graduate studies at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, where he received a Master of Arts Degree. After serving his country with a tour of duty in the US Army, he taught in the public schools of South Carolina for over 30 years.
On August 5, 1942, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, the former Elizabeth Payden, who preceded him in death. To this union, one daughter was born.
He was the last survivor of his immediate family consisting of 6 sisters; 3 younger and 3 older.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Zelinda S. (Kelvin) Davis of Bartlett, TN; granddaughters, Ms. Hope Sullivan Abraham (Shun-deceased) of Bartlett, TN and Casiopea N. Davis of Cordova, TN; grandsons, Ryan Scipio Davis of Bartlett, TN; Andre Jones (Shamika) of Coney Island, NY, Salvador Davis of Lexington, KY; 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 in The Gilmore Mortuary.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 11:00 am in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Wade A. Wyatt, Sr and Rev. Charles Johnson Officiating. In the event of thunderstorms, the services will be held in the chapel of The Gilmore Mortuary. ***COVID-19 precautions will be observed at both the Mortuary and the Cemetery .*** We ask that you practice social distancing and wear a mask.
