Mr. Gussie Collins Jr.

Wellford: On Friday morning, October 14, 2016, the Lord in his great wisdom dispatched an angel quietly to escort Mr. Gussie Collins Jr.  from his earthly home at 143 Broad Street out of this live into eternal rest. 

Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was a son of the late Gussie Collins Sr. and the late Bessie Cunningham Collins.

He was a member of Fountain Of Life Baptist Church, a former Loom Fixer at Startex Mills a former driver for McClean Trucking Company, a former employee of Collins Grading and Landscaping Company, a former Race Car Driver, and a self- employed Auto Mechanic. He loved fishing and hunting.  

A US Army Veteran of the Viet-Nam War, He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for his bravery in combat.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sherman, Carl and Shelton  Collins .

 Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Dean Collins of the home; daughters, Lillian Dannett Collins of Spartanburg, SC, Mrs. Jennifer (James) Harkless of Lyman, SC and Mrs. Gustina Collins (Ray) Hawkins of Garland, TX; brothers, Carnell (Etta) Collins of Spartanburg, SC and Claud (Dorothy) Collins of Greer, SC; sisters, Mrs. Annie (Grady) Hill of Cowpens, SC and Mrs. Shirley (Andrew) Tanner of Spartanburg; a god-daughter, Ms. China D. Smith of Duncan, SC; a god-son, Barrett Morrison of Lancaster, SC; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a host of Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Fountain Of Life Baptist Church with Rev. Rickie D. Sarratt and Bishop Robert Genovese, Officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Westwood Memorial Park.

The family is receiving friends at the home.
